This is so sad. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP Eric. You were valued far more than you gave yourself credit for.

These rent-a-refs have got to go!
by Theocratic Sedition inwtf!?!?
anybody catch the worst decision ever made at the end of a game?
wow heads have got to roll!.

The NFL needs to fix this now. These games are longer and the calls are horrible! Even when they get the call right, they screw up the administration of the penalty. How come my 7 year old knows the rules better than some of the replacement refs? This is why the players, coaches and fans are disrespecting them so much. Kyle Shanahan (Skins OC)got flagged at the end of the Skins/Bengals game for cursing out a ref. But, the ref deserved it. Meanwhile, the entire Bengal team was on the field without any flag. During the Ravens/Pats game, the entire Baltimore stadium had a chant going for almost 5 minutes directed at the refs (Bulls**t, Bulls**t).
The NFL makes billions of dollars each year and is screwing up their product to save a few dollars a game. Do the regular refs make a bunch of money? Yes. But it's a supply and demand deal. Obviously folks who can handle the pressure and have the experience necessary to ref an NFL game are in pretty short supply.

JWS vs LDS
by tresdecu ini came across a mormon "sisters" blog...reading through some of her missionary experiences, it sounded so much like jw pioneer "sis" relating hers.
just swap out some of the cult-language words and it's suddenly a jw experience of sharing "bible truths" with some poor worldly sap.. here's an taste of it:.
1)we were also led by the spirit this week to a former investigator's home.

Latest WT: Reduction in branch offices is "visible proof" that Christ is "breaking down human barriers"
by cedars inas has already been mentioned, the december 15th watchtower (study edition) is now online and available for download on this link.. i couldn't help but smile at the concluding comments of the final study article on page 28 where it had this to say:.
"the very concept of foreigner has already lost much of its meaning among jehovahs witnesses, who pay little attention to the nationality of those in their midst.
recently, for example, several of their smaller branch offices were merged to simplify the work of oversight and to improve efficiency in accomplishing the preaching of the good news of the kingdom.

These guys are just grasping at straws. The funny thing to me is that if they just explained that they opened too many offices in individual countries and that they're reorganizing to gain efficiency, I think most JWs (and even folks like me) would just shrug their shoulders. But, it's insane to say that Jesus ordered the reduction to break down human barriers.
OMG how did I ever fall for this crap?

There's gotta be another faction in the Writing Department, either that or they can't see the irony.
by Theocratic Sedition inthe past two week's worth of wt studies have made a couple points that appear contradictory in nature.
yesterday was too much, i felt at least.
either there's another faction within the writing department fighting for the equivalent of airtime in the literature, or they're all so indoctrinated that they fail to see the irony in what they publish.. for instance, take paragraph 5 from last week's lesson.. 5. unlike the law codes of many countries, "the perfect law" is neither complex nor burdensome but consists of simple commandements and principles.

The best part was the illustration of the bad boy greeting his friend with a fist bump. The conductor actually pointed it out as a "worldly hand shake" LOL - a bunch of people were making fun of that afterwards. I told one of my "friends", that I thought it was pretty ironic that they would have a study about freedom from detailed laws and then say you can't fist bump. He laughed and said it was one of the dumbest things he's ever seen.

The Decline of Elders and Ministerial Servants
by Londo111 ini seem to remember somebody saying that since the 90's the number of elders has declined from 90000 to 60000. does anybody have any hard figures regarding this?.
the organization is desperate for "qualified" men.
but their standards are much too high, especially the monthly field service hour requirements tagged on to endless meetings and congregational busywork.

amen cantleave! Even if I hadn't woken up, I would have still quit being an elder due to the things you mentioned

JV,
I've been thinking about what you've said on the possible restructuring. What it sounds like is similar to the way the Baptists are structured, with each congregation being autonomous. That has served them well in terms of not exposing the "mother" organization to lawsuits but they give up a lot of control.
I'm sure the WT Legal department would love to move in that direction and may even be recommending that course of action. But I just can't see them giving up that kind of control. Even if you make the local congregations their own legal entity (as is the case with many congregations in the US), the agency relationship would still apply if the WTS is still controling and directing management.
Maybe I'm wrong here but I think they'd really have to give up control to break the agency relationship.

The Myths of Disfellowshipping
by Londo111 injj allowed me to send him an article for jwstruggle.
i know this might not be everyone's cup of tea on jwn, and i hope this doesn't smack of self-promotion, which i find distasteful, but i hope it might bring comfort to some who have found themselves the victims of judicial committees.
